IV Therapy FAQs
New to IV Therapy?
If you are new to our clinic and have not seen a Naturopathic Doctor before, you will need to book a 60-minute Initial Naturopatic Visit ($220). If you are a current Naturopathic patient at our clinic and would like to receive IV treatments, you can book a brief 30-minute Naturopathic Follow-up Visit ($90). During this time, our Naturopaths will perform a full assessment, review your health history, take your vitals, do a urine analysis and, if appropriate, determine a treatment that is safe and suitable for your health needs. Please note that the cost of any IV treatments and IV supplies will be an extra charge. IV treatments may be booked and performed on the same day as assessment if the treatment is warranted and time permits.
What will an IV treatment be like?
Our Naturopathic Doctors will lead you into our relaxing IV lounge. They will take your pre-treatment vitals and go over any questions you may have. They will help determine a safe and appropriate IV formula catered to your health needs. A very small 3/4" needle will be inserted into a vein and our NDs will start the IV line. You can then sit back, relax, read a book or listen to some music. Our NDs will be monitoring you throughout and provide a safety bell for you to ring if you us. The IV bag will require approximately 30 minutes to drip. Our Naturopathic Doctors will take post-treatment vitals, make sure you are safe and stable to go home and provide post-treatment care instructions.
How often do I need to come for these treatments?
The frequency of treatment will depend on your condition and it's severity. Generally for acute conditions, you can receive weekly treatments for 3 to 6 weeks. For general health maintenance you can come once a month. Our highly trained and certified Naturopathic Doctors will assess your health needs and recommend an individualized treatment schedule for you.
Are there any side effects?
You may experience a sensation of heat if your IV is administered too quickly. Our trained Naturopathic Doctors will be monitoring you throughout your treatment and take pre and post-vitals. Magnesium in the formula can cause lowering of blood pressure, hence it is important to be well hydrated and eat a small meal before treatment. Bruising at the administration site, although less common, can happen.
What types of health conditions are contra-indicated for IV Therapy or are not treated at the clinic?
Our clinic does not treat cancer patients due to the complexity of the disease or pregnant patients. However, there may be other clinics more suited to treat cancer and prenatal patients. Patients with severe chronic liver, heart or kidney disease will have to have an initial naturopathic consultation first with our Naturopathic Doctors to determine if they can receive IV therapy and that it does not interfere with any medication.
Other things to note:
Please note that having an initial IV consultation visit does not guarantee IV treatment as our Naturopathic Doctors need to fully assess that IV therapy is warranted for your specific health conditions. If, for whatever reason you are not able to complete your IV treatment, you will still be responsible to pay, at minimum, the supplies fee for the treatment.
Our Multi-Vitamin & Mineral IV Drip contains a combination of vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, B Vitamins, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and trace minerals.
Conditions that may benefit from IV therapy include Chron's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Asthma, Headaches & Migraines, Chronic Fatigue, Colds & Flus, Fibromyalgia and more.

IV Patient Information (Please read before your treatment)
BEFORE YOUR IV TREATMENT
Eat a meal before coming to your IV treatment. This ensures stable blood sugar levels.
Drink at least 1 L (4 cups) of water before your IV treatment. This ensures stable blood pressure.
If this is your FIRST IV treatment, then obtain a urine sample cup from our front desk staff and provide us with a urine sample. We can rule out current infections and other kidney conditions with a urine dipstick test.
Bring a snack with you in case you need to eat something to raise your blood sugar levels. We also have protein bars for purchase.
Bring any recent relevant blood work with you.
Wear loose and comfortable clothing. Refrain from wearing tight belts, scarves, spanx, etc.
Do not exercise before or after your IV treatment. Do not take the stairs up to our clinic as this will affect blood pressure readings.
Inform us of all current supplements and prescriptions or if there are any changes in dose.
DURING YOUR IV TREATMENT
Bring a water bottle as you will be advised to drink 1-2 cups of water during your treatment. Our clinic will also provide water and tea in case you forgot your water bottle at home.
Do not cross your legs during treatment as this may constrict blood circulation.
Stay awake during your treatment so we know you are conscious.
Bring a book, an iPad, a smart phone or some reading material with you.
Inform us immediately if you are experiencing any pain, discomfort, heart palpitations, headaches, nausea, cramps, dizziness or if it becomes difficult for you to breathe. Ring the safety bell continuously until someone comes to attend to you.
Do not move the arm that is hooked to the IV line. Pretend you only have one arm to use.
Do not change the drip rate or move the IV bag as this may affect your treatment outcome.
AFTER YOUR IV TREATMENT
Drink at least another 2-4 glasses of water and eat another meal after your IV treatment. If the IV needle insertion site becomes hot, red, itchy, or you develop a rash or have a fever, call our clinics immediately at (403) 383-3228 (Marda Loop), (403) 383-2338 (Sage Hill), (403) 891-1941 (Willow Park) or (403) 891-1901 (Mahogany).
